Dull.

That's what they called her. Plain, boring, uninteresting, with obscured colors and no glint on her scales. Gloomy and murky, both inside and out.
Where is your shine, they asked. Where is something that makes you... you? You are no light dragon.


And she is not dull. She is iridescent. Her scales reflect thousands of colors - too bad no one can see it with her holed up in the darkest cave she could find. Who cares what they think. Cannot be hurt by something, you never knew about.


The first time she sees him, her eyes hurt.

He is just too much of everything. Light, color, mere presence. All the eyes are on him. Everyone pales in comparison, they just seem so...

Dull.

Yes. How could she forget.


He doesn't think she is dull. He wouldn't know. His eyes are broken from the birth, he mostly navigates by his smell, hearing and just a tiny bit of magic.

He says her voice is nice.

His light reflects on her skin and thousands of colorful spots dance on the grass. And then, for the first time in her life...

She feels beautiful.
