TLK (fanart) - When I was your favourite.

Hi everyone! Like I mentioned on the journal I posted two days ago, this drawing is what gave the courage to come out of my unintended hiatus and to appear here again. Of course, featuring two of my favourite characters Nuka and specially Zira.

Context of this drawing

In my headcanon, Scar originally did chose Nuka as heir. He did this despite his weak apperance but Scar belived that a lion's true strengh was his brain, not his brawn. Zira also belived this (she literally mentiones this while praising Kovu's "conniving mind" in TLK2).

However, as time passed and the lessons began, Nuka showed to be not as brilliant as his father had imagined. He wasn't toughtful, didn't focus, didn't pay attention to his surrondings and worst of all, he had no malice. Because of this, Scar reconsidered his choise and after a few failed lessons, he declined Nuka as his heir and told Zira that he would look for another lioness to have heirs with. Zira was angry and ashamed but begged Scar to give her another chance. He did and from this second chance, Vitani was born. Scar was happy to have a healthy daughter and decided to wait for her to be old enough to see if she could be suitable.

Then Kovu was born, but I'll tell that story on another post. This drawing is a reflection of how things were for a brief time during Scar's reign and most likely the best moments in Zira's and Nuka's life. I imagen Zira trying to be a good mother with her firstborn even if her relationship with her own mother was terrible. She remembered her beloved grandmother who raised her and she tried to emulate her behaviour with Nuka until, of course, Scar rejected him.

After that, Zira just ignored Nuka for the most part and as time went on and her mental health declined even more (she already had a troubled cubhood and was horribly influenced by Scar) and after his death she completly lost her mind, becoming obsessed with fulffyling Scar's last wish, to make Kovu the next king of the Pridelands.
