So I figured I'd upload a sketch of this just in case all inspiration vanishes and I decide not to finish it. I've already started inking it, but it's past 2am and while my insomnia is acting up and I'm not the least bit tired, my wrist is killing me so it's time to give it a wrest. Been working on this for a few hours now XD
Anyway, we got Simba and Nala, of course, the oldest generation in the sketch.
Then the next gen which is Kovu, Kiara, Vitani, and technically Kion.
And then the third gen on the image and youngest, my versions of Kovu and Kiara's cubs; from left to right from our point of view- Tambo, Amadi Nuru.
So while I did end up almost begrudgingly enjoying The Lion Guard, and I'm glad to see Kion introduced as canon to the Mufasa universe, I have never been happy with how close in age Kiara and Kion were in TLG. for it to make sense on a reproductive level, Kiara would have to be a young adult for Nala to go back into season and have another cub. Of cours eI know this is a fictional world, but how cute would it have been to have a young adult Kiara and Kovu around to mentor lil' cub Kion? So much more potential! But I guess they wanted to include Zira in TLG so whatever. Anyway, if I ever get to Kiara's Reign, Kion will be depicted as he is in this sketch; born after the Outlanders joined the Pride Lands after Zira's war as a some what later-in-life oops kid; who of course is very loved.
This would also put Tiifu and Zuri at the same age as Kion rather than Kiara, and I am undecided whether Vitani's guard will be who remains of the outsider lionesses, whether there will be a lion guard or not, or whether or not the characters in vitani's guard in tlk will many any appearance at all- if they did they'd probably be in Kion, Tiifu, and Zuri's age bracket.
Anyway, I'm doing this in a more labor intensive style more akin to how I used to construct lineart before the introduction to the pen tool in illustrator, so it'll probably take me a little longer to complete this sketch, assuming I don't get distracted
I need to try to get some sleep and put some ice on my wrist... wish me luck!
