MHA 10-B: Page 424

On the topic of Ben 10's various plots and lore, I don't find a lot of it particularly interesting. Especially lore about the Omnitrix itself. Take Primus for example: while it seems like a deep and important thing to the lore, the amount of times Ben has been 'inside' the Omnitrix and the various interpretations of how it works makes be believe it's connection to the rest of the lore is... unimportant?

Then there's the twelve or so versions of Kevin's backstory that personally make me wish he was just a punk with absorbing powers. Really, did they have to change it that many times?

I'm under the impression that the writers asked what they wanted to do and took very little into consideration before choosing to do it. It's the inherited issue of trying to add a long plot to a monster-of-the-week show across multiple generations. You get contractions, plot holes, and a complete disregard for what some previous episodes meant to people who originally watched it.

Also, Ben 10 has an issue of buildup, buildup, buildup, then the actual event is like... to or three minutes of either explaining or fighting then the whole arc is over. Classic didn't really have this issue because it would dedicate an entire season finale to both the fight with Vilgax as well as the Master Control fueled showdown of Ben versus Vilgax and Kevin. Alien Force technically dedicated a two-parter to the Highbreed invasion's final battle, but the actual resolution almost came out of left field if you missed one or two episodes, which is totally possible for a show most people watched on cable, not the internet. I don't hate the solution, I hate how little time was actually dedicated to what it was. The actual problem that species was dealing with was explained a whole minute before Ben solved it, and Azmuth apparently knew it the whole time. I can't help but feel like that's poorly handled, young me didn't even understand was 'inbreeding' was and I just had to roll with it. I was like... 12.

I also generally feel as if the Highbreed's plan changed late in development of the show. Why spend so much effort terraforming multiple areas of a planet if your goal is just to destroy it? Is your comfort really that important in a military setting? No, you'd only care about your comfort if it were anything other than the ultimate universal flipping of the chess board.
