[Affinity] Staris R4A 'Antheryn' EM-assisted Rifle

Lore and Description:
R4A "Antheryn" is a unique weapon developed by Staris in an attempt to increase firepower and range of individual soldiers with a weapon that is comparable in size to a regular assault rifle. The Antheryn is a dual-stage gun, where a saboted round is first fired from a regular cartridge using conventional explosive propellant, and then, as it travels along the barrel, is further accelerated by a pair of electromagnetic rails, giving it excellent penetration and muzzle velocity. The weapon is of a bullpup configuration, with a 24-round magazine and a separate power cell mounted above the barrel/rail assembly, under the top attachment rail. This cell can be swung out to the right side and replaced. A full cell can accelerate several magazines worth of ammuinition before needing a replacement.

To compensate for recoil, which is noticeably stronger than with a regular assault/battle rifle cartridge, the buttstock is equipped with a shock absorber, which somewhat dampens the recoil. A set of heat sinks and radiators is mounted on each side of the barrel/rail assembly to help manage the heat, which builds up quickly with repeated shots and wears down the electromagnetic rails. Even though the weapon is capable of fully automatic fire with a slow cyclic rate, firing it in semi-auto is recommended. By default, the weapon is equipped with a tracking scope, providing assistance in target leading and displaying useful information, like ammo reserve, energy level and temperature and condition of the EM rails. Special caution is required when firing the weapon because of its discarding sabots, posing a threat for anyone standing in a certain arc in front of the shooter.

This cutting-edge weapon only saw very limited use with Istarian special forces and came too late to be used during the Global War. Despite its impressive performance, it is a rather complex system which requires the user to manage not just ammunition, but also energy and heat of the EM accelerating system, making it a rather unpopular pick. However, as material sciences improve and lead to the creation of better and better body armor, and with the proliferation of drones and other unmanned combat systems (which also often sport armored plating), the role of such weapons will likely be more and more important on the battlefield.

Inspiration and Background Information:
The base silhouette of the weapon is inspired by the AUG A3 and the top-mounted power cell operates in a similar manner as the P90 magazine (but it swings out to the side rather than being lifted up and pulled to the rear). However, the weapon is mostly a custom futuristic design with no direct real-life analogue.
