Commission, a mech from the Payload setting.
The Gallowglass is the mech piloted by Angus Alvarez, a member of the Banditos. Its an older model from the LX line of Hyperion superiority mechs, a storied machine that spans a thousand years of history to the Sol War which engulfed humanity home system. Produced by the now defunct Genesis Corporation, its design has survived even into the modern day thanks to its recognizable legacy and easily accessible license from which other corporations have derived their own models from.
Angus, however, does not settle for less. He discovered what would become the Gallowglass in a junkyard, a third generation Hyperion that was equally in the best and worst conditions it could possibily be in. For its age, its a wonder how it even arrived at his planet, a remote world at the edge of known space called Milesius. He painstaking rebuilt this ancient war machine, keeping it true to its roots while at the same time ensuring it could survive modern warfare.
While the Hyperion model was designed to be a generalist in terms of war fighting, Angus' bias toward close combat guided the direction of its mechanical resurrection. Its dynamic auto-fiber muscles were replaced with an Overburn Musculature system, a MERK product that improved mech performance at high core temperature levels. This was required to wield its massive over-sized claymore, a traditional Milesian weapon scaled beyond its original specs to ensure maximum carnage. Knowing that he would need to survive long enough distances to close with the enemy, the weapon was built around a questionable repulsor-field that, when active, would deflect incoming enemy fire at the cost of driving up his heat. Knowing that this would fuel the OBM system, it was little concern to Angus. As a defensive measure against incoming missiles and a deterrent against infantry, he mounted a mini-vulcan to the shoulder of his mech.
While his squadmates are eager to get their hands on the latest and greatest tech to give the an edge, Angus instead looks backwards to rely on tried and true equipment to see him through. The Gallowglass is a testament to this, as it has survived core punctures, decapitation and dismemberment, coming back each time for more.
